About Me

I’m a 25 year old from the Boston Area, currently working in Corporate Accounting. I’m pretty normal, enjoy spending time with my friends and family, traveling (my goal is to take one big trip a year to travel somewhere new, and see the world), reading, television and movies, good food, good beer, cheap wine (and good wine, but my budget does not allow :-) ).

I come from a large irish family (three sisters, my dad moved here when he was in his 20s), and spend a lot of time them. I have a core group of friends who I am close with (although most of them are in other states!), and my roomie/boyfriend of 5 years, Matt.

I’ve always been overweight, since I was a little kid. I’ve tried many diets over the years, to no avail. I’d pretty much given up losing weight in total. And then my sisters joined weight watchers, and lost a large amount of weight through the program. October 2009 I joined, halfheartedly.

I mean that. I snuck bits and pieces, and didn’t really work out to my potential. In December I decided it “Wasn’t working” and quit. In March 2010, I went on vacation with two friends, and couldn’t get over how fat I was in the pictures. I weighed in at 258.

Something clicked after that picture. I dove head first into Weight Watchers, and took it one step at a time. I focused on 10 pounds at a time, and cutting small things out. Sweets, candies at the store, extras that to be honest I just. didn’t need. I focused on my portions, went out less, pre-tracked as much as I could, and went to the gym 2X a week.

And then I upped it to 3x a week, and then 4X a week, with videos when I didn’t feel like going to the gym. I lost on average 1.5 pounds a week, and was so happy and excited. It was such a personal experience (although  I shared with Matt and my sisters), and was honestly the hardest and most strengthening experience I’ve ever had. I found that I love good food, and savory dishes more than the fatty ones, and would rather spend my Sundays hiking than participating in a “Sunday Funday” like a lot of people do. I’ve developed passions, and most importantly, my own persona. And healthy living became a huge part of it.

So what went wrong?

I can’t really say. By Spring 2011, I was down to 199, and honestly at the top of my game. I felt great, looked great, and was very happy.

But I was burnt out. I missed enjoying myself, and felt like my relationship with food was getting very controlling. So I took a  weekend away as a “break”. And that turned into half assing the month of June.

Followed by bursitis in my hip, I ended up gaining 10 pounds in 2012. But I’m determined to hit my goal of 160 in 2013. And hopefully you’ll be there with me 🙂
